When visiting colleges, I always wanted to know, “What is there to do on campus?” I was not really into sports, although there are plenty of intramural activities here at WKU. And I wanted to get involved in clubs, but I knew the meeting times would not always work for my schedule. It was after I came to WKU that I found out that I could get involved on campus and get to know my fellow Honors College students without even leaving Minton Hall, the Honors freshmen residence hall.
While there is certainly more to college than residential life, it has been said that college students learn more outside the classroom than from any lecture they will attend. The social experience is integral to college, and WKU embraces this. The Hall Council in Minton does a great job of organizing events to foster friendships, and there is something for just about everyone.
Earlier this semester, I went to Salsa y Salsa, a fun and engaging event where the residents and RAs enjoyed chips and salsa and learned about Latin culture through dance. I had a blast, and recommend it to anyone who loves to dance or just wants to try some tasty food.
If Latin dance just doesn’t strike your fancy, there are plenty of other opportunities for you to socialize with fellow ‘Mintonians.’ The Minton Mocktail and Halloween party were both just as fun as Salsa y Salsa, and had a more ubiquitous flavor.
But even when the Hall Council has no organized event planned, the residents themselves have no problem taking matters into their own hands and arranging social activities. Students gather in the lobby or in their rooms to study together, watch TV, play video games, or just hang out. Meeting people and making friends is almost subconscious here. All you need to do is look!
The people you meet in Minton Hall will be your classmates, your roommates, and your environment for four years here, so it’s important to befriend them. Minton makes that easier, and, in my opinion, there is no better option when it comes to freshmen residence halls. So, come on! Get your feet wet, and meet new people.
Great campaing, in my country this is very dificult, but with hard work we have great things
