Western Kentucky University’s chapter of Golden Key recently won a national contest. The philanthropy-oriented honors organization earned a $500 prize for increasing likes on their Facebook page. They will use the money to assist local schools through hosting a T-shirt and Book Drive.
By the end of the four-week-long contest, WKU’s Golden Key more than doubled the number of likes on their Facebook page to win the contest. Starting numbers placed the chapter in Category 3, meaning they had 30 – 99 likes. One hundred and sixty-nine new likes brought Golden Key to a total of 268 followers.
To promote, “members and officers handed out Dum Dum lollipops that had a tag attached that said ‘Like us on Facebook – WKU Golden Key,’” according to the Golden Key’s national blog. Members also reached out to their friends and encouraged them to participate.
The contest assisted in funding philanthropy events that the Golden Key organizes and spreading the message of the Golden Key. Golden Key International is an organization open to the top 15% of a class. The WKU chapter contains many Honors College students working to improve our local community.
