Honors Professor Recognized By University of Michigan

The Honors College congratulates Dr. Alexander Olson for securing an honorable mention in the University of Michigan’s ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award competition for 2013. Over 800 dissertations were produced at the University of Michigan last year; this honor recognizes Dr. Olson’s as being among the very best. A total of ten awards and ten honorable mentions were granted. Dr. Olson’s dissertation, “The People’s Classroom: American Modernism and the Struggle for Democratic Education, 1860-1940,” explored the cultural and intellectual history of educational experiments in California, with a focus on re-imagining the public role of higher education. According to Dr. Olson, “I was fortunate to have extraordinarily kind and supportive mentors who pushed me to pursue an ambitious project.” He plans to publish a revised version of his manuscript in the near future. The Honors College takes pride in the continued success of its faculty and staff.
