Picnic with the President and BBQ with the Profs

In order to make the transition to college easier, the Honors College freshman are given several opportunities to get to know faculty and fellow students. Two events that incoming freshman get to attend are Picnic with the President and BBQ with the Professors.

For Picnic with the President, students gather outside of President Gary Ransdell’s home on Chestnut Street for dinner and a chance to talk with President Ransdell, his wife, and faculty and administration members. This year over 200 members of the Honors College class of 2018 and over 30 faculty and administration members were at the event.

BBQ with the Professors gave the students a chance to have dinner with fellow majors in the home of a faculty member from the college they are a part of. This year the event saw a record number of students and hosts. A big thank you goes out to the faculty that hosted students. This year the hosts were Lee David, Dean of Potter College, Bill Powell, swim coach, Craig Cobane, Director of the Honors College, Elizabeth Gish, Honors, Julie Ellis, engineering, Chuck Clark, Director of Student Publications, Rob Hale, Head of the English Department, Melinda Edgerton, and Audra Jennings, Office of Scholar Development.
